BLINK: Tell Me About A Place You Cannot Return To

In October 2019, Dani Clark, Mak Vail, and I created a listening installation for BLINKBLINK is one of the largest light, art, and projection mapping events in the nation. Our light installation featured a giant illuminated cloud sculpture with a 10 minute looping soundscape of collected audio responses to the prompt "tell me about a place you cannot return to." Giant bean bags encouraged participants to relax, quiet-down, and deeply experience community stories. In preparation for this installation, we spent August 2018 to August 2019 collecting community members' responses to our prompt. During this time, we partnered with local organizations to set up temporary recording sessions in libraries, in neighborhood community centers, on sidewalks, and in studio spaces. This installation featured ten of the audio memories collected during that year.
